NIDDERDALE SHOW 2008
Advance Notice of Classes

The show would like to let prospective exhibitors in the open classes have advance notice of various classes so that they can have plenty of time to prepare their exhibits.

Show schedules with entry forms are available in July

CHINA PAINTING:
1. An art deco plate

ART:
1. Water colour - 'On the Wild Side' - max 70cm
2. Oil/Acrylic - a landscape - max 70cm
3. Drawing - A dales feature - max 60cm
4. Pastel/charcoal/crayon - A child - 60cm

FLOWER ARRANGING:
1. 'Fireworks' - an exhibit
2. 'Cool and simple' - an exhibit
3. 'In the frame' - an exhibit
4. 'In the pink' - a petite arrangement
5. 'Celebration' - Novice class - An exhibit suitable for a dinner table.
Open staging, size 60cm x 60cm, height optional. Title card to be included.

AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHY:
A COLOUR PRINT max 13cm x 18cm
1. 'By the Nidd'
2. 'Naturally framed'
3. 'At work'
4. 'Outrageous!'

CHILDRENS' CLASSES:
1. Painting or mixed media, A3 - Humpty Dumpty - under 5 years
2. Model, an animal - under 5 years
3. Painting or drawing, A4 - At the park - 5 to 8 years
4. Model (max 20cm) - a TV character - 5 to 8 years
5. Painting or drawing, A4 A farmyard - 9 to 11 years
6. Model (max 25cm) - A house made from recycled materials - 9 to 11 years
7. Painting or drawing, A4 - Sky - 12 to 14 years
8. Model - A hinged puppet (with moving parts) - 12 to 14 years

PRODUCE

EGGS - OPEN:
Plates for display and saucers for breaking of eggs will be provided.
1. Dish of Four Hen's Eggs: Fresh, white
2. Dish of Four Hens Eggs: Fresh, tinted
3. Dish of Four Hen's Eggs: Fresh, brown
4. Single Hen's Egg (to be judged for contents only)
5. Dish of Four Bantam Eggs
6. Dish of Four Duck's Eggs (to be judged for contents only)

LOCAL CLASS:
1. Dish of Four Hen's Eggs
The judge will break an egg for the purpose of judging

HAMS AND STAND PIES - OPEN:
1. Home cured ham any size
2. A stand pie - hot or cold water pastry. Minimum weight 1 lb - maximum weight 1 lb 4 oz, to be presented cold
3. Four homemade sausages - cooked and presented cold, ingredients to be stated.

PRODUCE:
1. A white plait (using 1 lb dough)
2. A seeded brown loaf, made in a bread machine
3. A stollen (8 oz dough)
4. Two savoury cornish pasties
5. An anniversary cake - decoration only to be judged
6. A fruit flan with a pastry case
7. A round of savoury scones
8. A battenburg cake
9. A carrot cake
10. Four macaroon biscuits - almond or coconut
11. A shortbread selection (four minimum)
12. Set Recipe: WENSLEYDALE APPLECAKE
8" cake tin, Oven: gas 2, electric 190C, fan oven 170C

INGREDIENTS:
8oz (225g) Self-raising flour
4oz (115g) Caster sugar
4oz (115g) Butter
1 egg plus 4 tbs milk
3 medium sized dessert apples
(peeled, cored, sliced or grated)
150g Wensleydale cheese (coarsely grated)
TOPPING:
1oz (25g) caster sugar
1 tsp ground cinnamon
2oz (50g) butter, chilled

METHOD:
Place flour and sugar in bowl, rub in butter.
Add egg and milk and mix to a soft dough.
Spread half the mixture into greased and lined tin.
Arrange half the apple on top.
Spread the remaining mixture over the layer of apple, and smooth top.
Arrange the remaining apple over the top and sprinkle with cheese.
Topping - sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon and dot with butter.
Bake approximately 35 - 40 minutes
Leave in tin to cool for 20 minutes before turning out onto cooling rack.

PRESERVES:
1. A jar of lemon and lime marmalade
2. A jar of hard stone fruit jam
3. A jar of strawberry jam
4. A jar of jelly (any variety)
5. A jar of chutney (any variety)
6. A jar of orange curd

HONEY:
1. 1 lb jar of Light Honey
2. 1 lb jar of Medium or Dark Honey
3. 1 lb of Heather Honey
4. A jar of Soft Set Honey
5. One shallow or deep comb of Honey

WINES:
1. Bottle of dry white wine
2. Bottle of dry red wine
3. Bottle of sweet white wine
4. Bottle of sweet red wine

HANDICRAFTS:
1. Hand knitted leg warmers
2. An item in/with bobbin lace
3. A blackwork picture (max 50cm)
4. An embroidered greetings card
5. A soft toy - any medium
6. A crocheted or hand knitted hand/shoulder bag
7. A waistcoat - any medium
8. Computer generated notepaper/notelets with envelopes
