The annual Nidderdale Agricultural Society dinner, held recently at the Memorial Hall, Pateley Bridge, attracted two top speakers who entertained over 170 committee members and their guests with tales of Yorkshire. Gary Verity of Welcome to Yorkshire told guests how he managed to secure the Tour de France Grand Depart, demonstrating his huge enthusiasm and passion for promoting the region, and author Dulcie Lewis talked about her remarkable career.
The meal was organised by Rachel Greensit of Haregill Lodge Catering.
President John Fort welcomed the guests and retiring Chairman Derek Harker gave the vote of thanks.
The Society chose the evening to present Mrs Margaret Stoney with her life membership badge in recognition of her many years of service and dedication to the show.
John Fort said “This was a wonderful evening with great entertainment from Gary Verity who was taking time out from lambing activities at home and Dulcie Lewis who was having a change from writing to promoting her books. She brought the house down with her humorous stories and anecdotes of bygone days of Yorkshire life.”
Surplus proceeds from the dinner were donated to the Addington Fund’s Somerset Appeal which is supporting farmers in the flood hit South West.
