Last Friday 4th March saw the culmination of events for The Nidderdale Agricultural Society’s 2010 calendar. The annual show dinner held at the Pateley Bridge Memorial Hall hosted 169 guests. The audience was entertained by Guest Speaker Margaret Watkinson and comedian Martin Gold.
Margaret gave an amusing speech about ‘Agriculture and Our Society’ drawing upon her many years of involvement not only with The Nidderdale Show where she was awarded Show Person of the Year in 2000, but with the Young Farmers at Askwith where she farmed with her parents keeping pedigree Suffolks which she regularly showed at Nidderdale Show. Margaret who is well known in farming circles far and wide still shows sheep and has been one of Nidderdale Show’s most consistent exhibitors.
John Fawcett gave his final speech as Show President stating that he ‘ never had any aspirations to become President, but once elected his two years as President have been the most enjoyable on the show committee’, he went on to say that he’ has been invited to various functions and events and met lots of interesting people he would otherwise not have met’ and he thanked the Society for giving him that opportunity. John also gave thanks to his partner Eileen who had been an enormous help with organising for the show and special thanks were given to Sue Monk who has done a tremendous job as the Show Secretary for the last 15 years. John wished every success to the new President Alan Firth with whom he had been a Sheep Steward for the show for over 30 years.
